Organization for Rural Development (ORD) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working in the rural and remote areas of Sindh province for the development of ignored c ommunities and groups. ORD was formed in March 2011 and then registered on 01st February, 2012 under societies registration act to operate in Sindh province. ORD was formed by a young and motivated group of people working for the development of people belonging to rural areas of Sindh. It was realized by the founding members of ORD during response to the super floods of 2010 in Sindh that the people belonging to the rural areas of the province were the most vulnerable people as they had limited resources, limited education, limited facilities, & very little knowledge about their basic rights. Most of the people of rural areas do not have the opportunities of good quality education, they are at high risk during emergencies as they had no proper infrastructure or early warning system, or DRR plans, the health facilities in remote areas are not provided, thousands of villages are deprived of the basic facilities of health, education, sanitation, electricity, & livelihood opportunities in Sindh. The poor knowledge about their basic rights is also contributing in their disempowerment. Due to unawareness and lack of education the people are practicing different types of violence against women, children, and other vulnerable groups. Even these all issues are existing in all rural areas of Sindh yet there are not enough governmental or non-governmental organizations/ or they do not have the capacity to support these ignored populations through their projects that brings a decrease in the sufferings of marginalized communities so this became a driving force behind the establishment of ORD. This feeling brought the group of young and experienced people at one platform to establish an organization that works with the experienced people without any discrimination on the basis of color, caste, tribe, area, religion, creed, or party to develop the rural people and their areas by working with the partnership of government and non-governmental organizations so that the real people could be served on equal basis by ensuring the transparency and accountability at every stage of its projects. ORD believes on participatory approach during performing any tasks as this approach reduces the chances of inequality and increases the chance of transparency. The Organization values people from diverse backgrounds, working to create an open atmosphere of trust, honesty and respect. Harassment or discrimination of any kind – including that involving race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, citizenship, disabilities, sexual orientation, or any other similarly protected status – is unacceptable in organization and it has clear and strict policies that are followed to ensure that ORD is using the resources of its donors in the best and effective way. ORD is a new but committed organization of Sindh province. It has the clear policies and strategy for working with its donors in an accountable manner so that all interventions can be carried out smoothly and the objectives could be achieved timely with real positive effect on the lives of targeted communities. It has become a part of an advocacy program led by a national NGO of Pakistan with the support of USAID for the protection and promotion of women rights in Sindh. ORD has organized the seminars on Karo Kari, Early Age Marriages, Sang Chati and other GBV issues in northern districts of Sindh. Workshops with media persons and speech competitions for college students have been also arranged by ORD on gender related issues so that the cases of VAW can be reduced and the women can also enjoy their rights. ORD is spreading the network of its volunteers all over the province and has plans to seek the funds for programs and projects on education, health, women rights, child rights, labor and farmers rights, recovery and rehabilitation, DRR, HIV AIDS, and other development projects to be implemented in the areas that are in great need for these and where these needs are still remained unmet.

Pakistan Kissan Trust (PKT) was formed in 2003 by a collective of farmers groups, progressive and forward looking peasants/farmers (women and men), social activists and political workers committed to improve the socio-economic conditions for poor farmers/peasants and political strengthening and mainstreaming. The governance structure of the Trust consists of; Board of Trustees, Advisory Committee and Office Bearers and it is currently working in 10 districts of Punjab in almost 285 villages. PKT, in its start in 2003, made its presence known through discussions with peasants, including men and women, about various problems that they were facing regarding the production and the marketing of their produces and looking for provision of technical support to them to affect change in their favor. This process of mobilization and technical assistance though started with culture, welfare and sport based activities. One good example of mobilization was opening of the membership for all who shared the concern and wanted to contribute in any form. Year 2004 was very important year in the life of PKT when the organization had already made its presence felt in some of the communities’ related works. PKT in 2004 introduce new concept of farmer’s development through establishing their own institutions (Kissan Baethak) at district level. PKT has established two kissan baethaks at district level. Land in other two districts has identified. The basic concepts of these institutions are to provide an opportunity to poor farmers to unite at one platform for their development initiatives and advocacy for rights. Our farmer is benefiting from a social institution like CHOPAL for the last many centuries. This is a place where farmers can talk on the issues ranging from their family disputes to agriculture affairs. They gather all their resources to solve these matters. However, with the increase in government intervention in local affairs, this traditional institution became weak and ultimately vanished away from the scene. The concept of Kissan Baithak is, in fact, another shape of this traditional rural institution of CHOPAL.. In this backdrop a group of educated and active farmers organized themselves as Ghareek Kissan Tehreek (Movement of Small farmers) that in just last few years have become and active movement of farmers in Punjab and Sindh. The Tehreek has a vision to make small farmers a political force in this country has spread in all four provinces in very short time. The movement also formed a Pakistan Kissan Trust (PKT) to provide it an institutional impetus for quality services and technical guidance to make the movement effective and useful. Set-up in 2003 the Trust has provided strong support to Tahreek through its focused programs of farmers education; farmers centres in 3 district; livelihood and community Physical Infrastructure (CPI) schemes for member farmers; training and advocacy actions on issues facing small farmers and connecting them with other civil society groups and social movements.
